December Teacher of the Month

Congratulations to the Lorena Middle School Teacher of the Month for December
Mrs. Tonya Cargill!

Mrs. Cargill has been nominated and selected as Lorena Middle School's December Teacher of the Month.  Mrs. Cargill teaches 6th grade Reading  at Lorena Middle School.   This is her 19th year in education and her 10th year at the middle school campus.

Below are portions of the nomination letters Mrs. Cargill received:

Mrs. Cargill should be teacher of the month because she makes her lessons more interactive for the kids.  She brings the lessons to life when I am in her class.  When she dresses up she makes sure you know that it isn't all fun and games; that it is a regular learning day.  When you have trouble with a question or something, she doesn't explain and give you the answer right then and there, she gives you little hints and encourages you to find the answer yourself.  I think Mrs. Cargill is a Wonderful teacher.

Mrs. Cargill creates an alternate universe - it's like you are really IN what you are learning. She dresses up and really gets excited about her lessons and that makes me want to be there. Plus we are reading a book that no one else is getting to read! I wish I could be in her class all day.

If you would like to nominate an educator for Teacher of the Month, please contact the LMS office at 254-857-4621.

Dare to Be a Reader

October 26th thru November 1st

In conjunction with Red Ribbon Week, Lorena Middle School is hosting its First Annual "Dare to be a Reader" Read-a-Thon.  Our goal is to create a life-long love of reading in our students. We want to encourage students to see the value of reading now and in the future.  Teachers have been sharing what they are reading with students too.  By encouraging reading, we are also encouraging achievement. We also hope to raise funds to build classroom libraries and purchase student incentives.  Students will  bring home information packets on October 20th.  Students will gather sponsors for reading the week of October 26th.

Sponsors may pledge per minute or make a one time donation.  Sponsors who live far away, or wish to use a credit card for their pledge, may even make a donation through the GoFundMe account set up for the Lorena MS Read-a-Thon. Click on the link here to go to the Lorena MS Read-a-Thon GoFundMe.

Thank you for supporting students at Lorena Middle School.

Resources for Students and Parents

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS are the standards teachers are required to teach for each grade level and subject area.  The general TEKS can be found on the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) website (http://tea.texas.gov/curriculum/teks/).

If you are interested in more detailed information to support the TEKS, a great resource can be found on the TEKS Resource System (TEKS RS) (pictured here) To access the TEKS RS, Click on the TEKS Resource System in the drop down menu under "For Parents" on this web page.

The TEKS RS provides details and specific information about standards by grade level and subject area.  All core subject areas are included for grade 3 through 12.  This is one of many resources available to parents and students in the Lorena ISD.   When teachers post objectives, they will be posting the TEKS # along with it as a point of reference.  The TEKS Clarification provides each standard and support details for a better understanding of expectations.

If you have any questions about accessing this resource, please contact Mrs. Jenny Glaser, the instructional specialist at Lorena Middle School.

January Teacher of the Month

Congratulations to January's Teacher of the Month - Sondra Moseley!

Mrs. Moseley, has been nominated and selected as Lorena Middle School's January Teacher of the Month.  Mrs. Moseley is a teacher's aide at Lorena Middle School.  This is her 1st year on the middle school campus.  However, Mrs. Moseley has been in Lorena ISD for 9 years.

Below is a portion of the nomination letter Mrs. Moseley received:

Mrs. Moseley is fantastic with students.  She has a challenging job, but she always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude.  She not only supports students to whom she is assigned, but any student in need of assistance.  Mrs. Moseley also helps out wherever and whenever needed.  Recently, there was a difficult situation in which she went above and beyond. In other words, Mrs. Moseley is incredible - her patience with students and her passion for what she does is evident.  She is truly deserving of being recognized as Teacher of the Month.

                                                Congratulations Mrs. Moseley!!
